Bio

Emma Hixson is a fiber artist who combines multiple surface design processes such as hand-dyeing, dye painting, free motion machine stitching, hand embroidery, and beading to create representational works for the wall. Her work explores female archetypes as they appear in art history, mythology, and film, examining how those depictions represent the actual experiences of womanhood. Her practice is heavily research-based, often featuring imagery, symbolism, and text from historical sources that become recontextualized within the composition.
